Behind MAAT Films: Your Questions Answered

This FAQ is designed to answer the most common questions from visitors, partners, press, schools, and booking inquiries. It reflects the full ecosystem of MAAT Films and can be posted directly on maatfilms.com.

MAAT Films, LLC is a Manhattan-based film and cultural production company founded by actress, filmmaker, author, and cultural activist Nadhege. Rooted in the principles of truth, balance, and artistic integrity — the ancient Egyptian concept of Ma'at — the company creates meaningful stories that educate, heal, and inspire. MAAT Films operates at the intersection of entertainment, education, and social impact.

Nadhege is the Founder and Creative Director of MAAT Films. She is an award-winning filmmaker, author, actress, producer, cultural programmer, and public speaker. Her work bridges Harlem's jazz legacy, Black history, intergenerational healing, and contemporary storytelling. She is an MWBE-certified business owner and DOE-registered vendor.

MAAT Films creates and produces original films, children's book series, cultural programming, educational workshops, speaking engagements, and community empowerment initiatives. The company also offers consulting services and manages the IP ecosystem of its flagship projects: Paris Blues in Harlem, Paris & Pop-Pop, The Absolute Picture, Make Grandfather Great Again, and Grandma Speak Up.

MAAT Films is based in Harlem, New York, with reach across New York City schools, community organizations, film festivals, media networks nationally, and globally.

Press & Recognition

"… … few performances stood above the rest. Alexandre's (Nadhege Ptah) struggle to overcome family expectations and pursue her dream is described poetically and with great verve."

Angry Jellow Bubbles

"I don't understand how Ptah managed to capture so much emotion in just 15 minutes of the film, but that's a true testament of her talent and why her short was featured on the PBS Online Film Festival."

Paris Blues In Harlem

"I first saw her short film Dodo Titi in 2016 and was impressed by the poignant way she told the story of a Black nanny who felt that her employers valued the family dog more than they did their significant human employee."

DoDo TiTi

"She personifies the New Harlem Renaissance, where the artist is intellectualist-humanist-community activist and the art is infused with purpose."
